Goalkeeping star to light up Diss

A safe pair of hands will be turning on the Diss Christmas lights next week after young Norwich City goalkeeper Declan Rudd confirmed his attendance.

The 19-year-old footballer, who was born and raised in Diss, will perform the switching-on duties at the annual festivities on Thursday.

The former Diss High School pupil, who made his full debut for the Norwich City first team last September, will also join Carnival Queen Annabel Oakes and guests for a Christmas parade on a carriage pulled by Suffolk Punches from Banham Zoo before turning on the town's illuminations in the Market Place at 6.45pm.

A programme of festive entertainment will begin from 5pm Thursday, which will include 'swinging Santas', Punch and Judy, the Waveney Choir, and Kenninghall Morris Dancers in the Market Place. In Mere's Mouth there will be Park Radio, real reindeer, face painting, a stiltman and snowman.

The Market Place, Mere Street, and Mere's Mouth car park will be closed to traffic from 9.30am to 9pm on Thursday.
