In the 49th minute of today’s game, I, like many others in the ground will take part in a minute’s applause for a special Canary, who was tragically taken from us 10 days ago, David Powell.

A lot has been mentioned, with plenty kind messages of condolence for David's friends and family on social media, in this paper and by the club. Sadly, it's something like this, that shows what a beautiful, strong and kind bond we have amongst each other at this club.

I have known David for approximately five years and it seems that I'm one of the few Norwich fans that didn't get in what shall we say a 'healthy debate' with David, but that probably is because he knew I only saw the positives and wouldn't bother with negativity. He also knew I only wanted the best for the club and that was what David wanted.

David was definitely marmite on social media. I'm sure there were some people who didn't like what he was saying. And yep, on some occasions I was cringing at what he was saying, as I knew he had just opened another can of worms. But more often than not he was just telling people the truth.

I'm sure there were some people who had their doubts about the season ahead, but like me, David was always reassuring people. And if only David was at Carrow Road last Saturday against Newcastle, he would've been buzzing with our performance and would be telling people that's why we are going to be okay. He would have been so proud of the team, the fans and the club at the final whistle. And it was that performance that made many people proud as they left Carrow Road last Saturday.

Teemu Pukki got all the plaudits, and rightly so, but I think we can all agree that every single player played their part.

This was proved whilst I was having a post match pint with friends and family. Whilst we all agreed that Pukki was man of the match, I asked who people thought would've got if it were not for Pukki's performance. Normally you have one or two nominations but this time it felt like every player got suggested. I said Tommy Trybull. It felt like Trybull was just stopping any potential final attack play for Newcastle. This was done with absolutely minimal fuss. That sitting in front of the defence allowed both Max Aarons and Jamal Lewis more freedom to attack. I said this reminded me of when Ian Culverhouse played the sweeper role back in the season of 1993/94. I remember so many clubs were unable to play against that freedom and history could be repeating itself now.

Mo Leitner was another player who stood out. He totally dictated the game and a lot of our play went through him. A year ago I remember doing a piece on Mo stating how we would see his class come through last season and it seems it could be happening this season. Nice to see I might be proved right. All the stats last Saturday showed he was head and shoulders above any Newcastle player in the middle of the park. Maybe, just maybe another bold prediction, with more performances like that, he may add a German full international cap to the youth ones he's already got.

Then there's the young ones. I just hope when Ben Godfrey puts his City shorts on before today's game, he's taken Newcastle's £40m striker Joelinton out of his back pocket from last week. Jamal Lewis has been immense since his debut in Christmas 2017. Like every other stage of his City career, he has taken Premier League life in his stride.

Finally Todd Cantwell. Whilst last year some people questioned his ability, I listened to people like Darren Huckerby. Hucks always praised Todd and said his true potential will come out in the Premier League. Todd has definitely worked hard in the summer and it's definitely showing the rewards.

So today, again let us fans do our bit by raising the volume up a notch again, both all game and especially in the 49th minute for David. And I am sure the players will do their bit. Again, we will be very proud... on and off the pitch.
