One reader believes that keeping tobacco products in the ‘naughty’ cupboard hasn’t helped stop smokers.
Every week I go to my local supermarket and along with food and other provisions, I always buy a packet of pipe tobacco.
Yes I know it’s a bad habit, but I have been smoking since I was 14, and can’t see any point in giving up now.
Fellow smokers will know that all tobacco products are now kept in a ‘naughty’ cupboard, are covered with pictures of diseased body parts, and are subject to obscene levels of taxation.
If you don’t smoke you will probably agree with this punitive treatment, butwhat about the poor shopstaff who have to sell this stuff?
Most are non-smokers, but are subjected to the highly unpleasant images imposed by the government, and it is now virtually impossible to distinguish one brand from another.
It seems to be yet another example of a policy that has not been thought through properly.
