One reader believes police officers should be allowed to use force when necessary. What do you think?

We are reading such reports on a regular basis. Unfortunately our government is, too often, swayed by the politically correct minority and those who take human rights to an extreme which, alas, works against them.

Our police force is one of the cornerstones of our democracy and they should be given the authority to provide a society in which we can live safely.

Regrettably, as with the Armed Forces, they are unable to carry out their duties without the continual worry of intimidation by the media and do-gooders.

They should be able to defend themselves using reasonable force and be proactive in tackling crime.

All of us who obey the law would have nothing to fear from this course of action.

The ‘quid pro quo’ for the public would be that those officers who take advantage of their position would be severely punished.

Do you agree with Michael? Should police officers be allowed to use force? Let us know in the comments below or write to us at edpletters@arhcant.co.uk
