In a few days time we will all be forced to go through the ridiculous ritual of putting our clocks back one hour.

There are numerous myths about our reasons for continually jumping backwards and forwards every year, but there is plenty of evidence that this practice is actually counter-productive.

If we simply stuck with BST all year, it would reduce road traffic accidents and reduce energy consumption, which would reduce CO2 emissions. The subject has been debated in Parliament on many occasions, and it is mainly due to concerns of the Scottish authorities that we are stuck with this crazy system.

Apparently in the far north of Scotland, it would stay dark as late as 10am if BST was adopted during the winter months, and this would adversely affect children going to school. This may seem a valid concern but surely all they have to do is to change the schools timetables, which has to be much easier than changing every clock in the country.

It must cost the economy a small fortune, makes people bad tempered and I really hate it getting dark at 4pm in the afternoon. It really is time to put a stop to this nonsense.
