One reader has a few suggestions of things that need to be improved before more houses can be built in Norfolk.

Every time I read the EDP, another district or county council has voted for yet more development. These decisions seem to be 'inner circle' led and the councillors just vote for what a few committee members say and take no account of what the people who voted them in want. I do however congratulate the large number of councillors in North Norfolk who refused to follow orders and, wanting to vote for their constituents wishes, resigned and formed an independent group.

It is clear to everyone except an out of total touch few that we can have no more houses until at least the following is done:

? Health - we need more hospitals, wards, medical centres, dentists and then the staff and resources to man them. Look how the hospitals all over Norfolk are getting overcrowded.

? Schools - thousands of extra children in the county means that we need more schools, teachers etc. And who is going to pay for them?

? Roads - with all the new houses and extra traffic on our roads, they are beginning to start breaking up and get gridlocked. But what does the council do but divert money from these urgent repairs to the NDR shortfall. The A47 needs to be upgraded.

? Transport - Greater Anglia Railways is one of the worst in the country with signal, track, point and stock breakdowns taking place somewhere on the network everyday and this is at a time we need to reduce car usage.

? Norwich - a great deal of money has been spent trying to get people to cycle round Norwich but what happens to the disabled and elderly who cannot cycle? I even understand the two of the four park and rides are closing down.

Our great county is being destroyed by landowners and developers being allowed by a small number of cabinet type district and county councils to over-development. We must act at the spring local elections to get Norfolk back on track. If we don't, then life in our county is going to go into the gutter and it will no longer be the place to live.
