Many of comedian Ken Dodd's fans, myself included, have been saddened by his death at the age of 90.

I have fond personal memories of the comic genius that he was.

As an Eastern Daily Press reporter, I attended one of his shows at the Theatre Royal, Norwich, and wrote a positive review for the paper. A few weeks later, I received a personal letter from Ken, sent from his address in Knotty Ash, thanking me for such a good review. Unbeknown to myself, a fan had cut out the review from the EDP and sent it to Ken.

MORE: Norfolk memories of Sir Ken Dodd who has died aged 90On another occasion, I was given a 15-minute slot in which to interview the top comic over the phone ahead of his appearance at the Princess Theatre in Hunstanton.

However, the only problem was he was answering my questions in quick-fire gags and I was laughing so much that when the interview ended I looked at my notepad and there was hardly any notes because I was in absolute hysterics for the full quarter-of-an hour.

I consider, like many people, that Ken Dodd was a comic genius and a master of his craft at delivering the one-liner gags.

Of course, one of his trademarks was that his shows went on for hours and audiences often didn't leave the theatre until nearly 2am having been there

since 7.30pm.
