I cannot help but be amused at the never ending items in the media about Great Yarmouth and the plans to revitalise the resort town.

They come up with these striking plans for new buildings etc and yet manage to ignore the main reason for the town's decline over the past 30 years.

By this I mean the chronic road system in the town centre area.

For some years the town centre area, ie Market Gates and the old market have been cut off from the promenade, with no access or public transport to link these two major areas.

When I was younger people could come to Great Yarmouth and often choose one of two ways to enjoy the town.

Obviously in good weather with children they would make a beeline for the promenade and beach. The remainder would start in the town centre and spend time and money in the shops then make their way via Regent Road to the promenade and its myriad of attractions.

The problem really started when they closed off Regent Road to transport, ie buses. This was a major artery to transport people from the shops to the front and visa versa, whereas today there is nothing.

Connected with this there used to be buses running from the Pleasure Beach to North Denes, again a vital link for people to use the facilities of the promenade without using their cars.
