Could this be the face – or rather the eyes – of the new John Lewis Christmas advertisement?

A strange four-second high-production clip has appeared online and there's speculation that it's a teaser for the new John Lewis ad which – if previous form is followed – is due to appear on Thursday or Friday.

The Twitter account @UnderTheBed2017 features the clips and urges followers to tweet using the hashtag #UnderTheBed. A similar tactic was used last year to launch the trampolining dog advert when a new Twitter account appeared just days before the launch.

Heartstring pluckers JL deviated from saccharine form last year to give us an advertisement in which man's best friend held a wildlife rave on a trampoline as its intended recipient watched in pre-tantrum horror on Christmas morning.

The Under the Bed teaser appears to show a wide-eyed creature which is hiding, presumably – call me a genius – under a bed.

It's a brave retailer that bases the most important marketing campaign of the year on the premise of Stephen King's It. Extra team points if Pennywise appears and tempts whoever they'll have singing the breathy ballad into a storm drain.

(On which note, the whisper is that said ballad is going to be a cover of Last Christmas, by Wham!)
