If you are aged below about 40, you’ve probably never used it.
But to older generations, the £1 note brings back fond memories of England’s very own “greenback”.
Today is a special day in its history - 30 years to the day since it officially ceased to be legal tender, on March 11 1988.
The final version of the note, which featured the Queen on the front and Isaac Newton on the back, knew its days were numbered when the £1 coin was brought in in 1983.
The final pound note was issued on December 31 1984, and it finally disappeared from our wallets just over three years later.
