The campaign to keep Unilever's Colman's Mustard factory open in Norwich will be raised in the European Parliament on Monday.
Alex Mayer, Labour's MEP for the East of England, will ask for the company to come back with 'better plans' and to provide reassurances that it will stay.
She will say: 'The decline of manufacturing jobs is not written in stone and 10,000 people have already signed the EDP petition to say we don't want to see much-needed jobs that are vital for the Norwich economy lost.
'And we don't want to see the 200-year Norwich and Colman's link, severed.
'?My message is clear, Norwich doesn't just have a fiery condiment, we have fiery campaigners too. Unilever - come back with new plans and reassurances that cut the mustard.'
On Tuesday, October 3, Britvic announced plans to close its Norwich factory and switch production to other parts of the UK, hitting 242 jobs.
Later that morning Unilever, the maker of Colman's Mustard, announced it was considering its own future at the Bracondale site.
