Over the past month and a half, there has been one man at the forefront of all the major news outlets across the globe: Donald Trump.

But that leaves a large problem with journalism currently, not enough attention is being given to the other stories which are arguably more important than the US president.

What’s more, certain people see him as an opportunity to bury news that would otherwise take centre stage, which is incredibly concerning.

For example, during Trump’s first few weeks as president, the UK government suddenly backtracked on the plan to allow 3,000 refugee children into the country, instead opting for a far smaller alternative of a mere 350 and hoping that everyone would be too interested in what was happening across the Atlantic to notice.

This is not to mention the fact that the haywire strike in the Yemen that lead to the death of 30 civilians, and one Navy Seal has been all but forgotten alongside the suicide bombing in the supreme court in Kabul, thanks to everyone focusing on things the president has done since then.

Even now, news stories are still going under the radar, such as reports that 13 terror attacks have been stopped in Britain since 2013.

This story has taken a back seat to Trump’s claims that he was wire-tapped by Obama during the US election.

To me, and most likely a significant amount of other people, this is concerning.

The fact that so much can be glossed over in favour of talking about the mishaps and Twitter ramblings of the US president gives a potentially disturbing vision of the next 4 years in journalism, as governments try to sneak out important information behind the wall of news about Trump.

One would hope that eventually such news will be ignored and more important issues be brought forth, but until then the public must be vigilant and not let important information be silenced behind the noise coming from the White House, because at this point I just want to see the front pages of news outlets bear more than Trump’s face all the time.
