Ofsted inspections have arguably become one of the best-known areas of school life.

Outstanding, good, requires improvement, inadequate - four labels which can, quite easily, come to define a school, its staff and, at times, its pupils.

But a rating can hide so much - aside from exam results, it misses the success stories in maths, the inspirational help at an after-school club and the dedication of teachers.

Overall, it's a pretty positive picture - schools, both primary and secondary, are at, or above, the national average.
