The Old Hall, Barnham Broom, situated in extensive grounds with frontage to the River Yare, was built in 1514 for Sir Edward Chamberlayne, who accompanied Henry VIII to The Field of the Cloth of Gold summit meeting with King Francis 1 of France in 1520.The house was remodelled in 1614 by Chamberlayne's great grandson, also Edward, who installed one of its most notable features, a magnificent plasterwork ceiling in the first floor Great Chamber, now the drawing room.
In 1663 the house was sold to Sir Philip Woodhouse of Kimberley and remained part of the Kimberley Estate until 1923. -
From the first half of the 20th century, one of the Lincoln family lived there. The Lincolns came from nearby Hingham and were related to the United States President Abraham Lincoln.
