Plans have been refused to build new housing on farm land the edge of Pulham Market because it would be out of character with the village.
Planners have refused an application from A J Alexander & Sons Ltd for seven dwellings, including three affordable homes, on land off Colegate End Road.
The homes had been opposed by Pulham Market Parish Council who said it was outside the village development boundary and that two previous applications had been turned down due to concerns over ribbon development along the road.
In its submission Durrants Building Consultancy, on behalf of the applicants, argued the plans would provide a mix of dwellings including an affordable bungalow for older people and two plots for starter homes.
In its decision South Norfolk Council said the development would "urbanise the setting of the two Grade II listed buildings opposite, no longer preserving their rural setting".
