Its name pays tribute to WG Grace, the famous cricketer who once played on the ground in Norwich now a new homes site.

From 1827 cricket matches were played at Lakenham county ground in Norwich, famous for its thatched pavilion. Indeed, it saw many important matches including international games and stars of the sport played there including William Gilbert, 'WG,' Grace (1848-1915), pictured at the ground, far right with Australia's Billy Murdoch, renowned for his imposing moustache.

However, in 2014, work began on demolishing the ground to make way for around 50 new homes which I got a glimpse of this week ahead of the open weekend tomorrow and Sunday.

The houses, including three bedroom terraces, four bedroom townhouses and four bedroom detached houses, are being built by Hopkins Homes and sold through agents Savills New Homes.

The first phase sees The Oak, The Birch, the Aspen and the Beech for sale for prices from £299,995.

What is most impressive to me is the fact Hopkins have cleverly carried on the street line from the original Victorian terraces adjoining, keeping the same street width and building the terraces in the same style with the same roof line.

So you really don't feel like you have left the original Norwich street and entered a new homes site at the end of the road.

The townhouses, and there is a beautifully furnished show property, are really very appealing.

Hopkins do finish off everything so well and the arrangement actually has more of an apartment type feel with a bedroom/study and cloakroom on the ground floor and the kitchen, open plan with a spacious living area on the first floor so with really great city-scape views.

You then have three bedrooms on the top floor with the master having an en suite and they are a good size.

You have a garden and garage but what is such a big benefit is that you are in walking distance of the city centre so these types of homes really appeal to all kinds of buyers from downsizers to those moving into their first home and according to Richard Aldous, head of new homes at Savills, Hopkins can't build them fast enough. • If you want to take a view, contact Savills New Homes on 01603 229229
