Gingerbread Cottage, Quebec Road, Dereham, built in the orangey 'gingerbread' carrstone with 'icing' in the form of decorative white gables over its windows, is for sale for £205,000-£225,000 with William H Brown auction centre at the Barnham Broom Golf & Country Club on June 15 at 11.30am. There is an open day on Saturday, May 19 from 12.30-1.30pm.

This is a chance to buy one of the most photographed properties in the county, coming under the hammer with William H Brown.

The cottage, which has considerable history, is coming up in one lot but offers two dwellings; the main house has a rear double storey extension that provides individual ground floor living accommodation and two bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor. There is also a single storey annexe which has open plan living space, a bedroom and bathroom. The property offers scope for updating and further development subject to obtaining the necessary planning consent from Broadland District Council.

The cottage was designed to look like something out of a fairytale and over the years has been much photographed, even turned into a calendar to raise money for charity, signed by singer Ed Sheeran in 2012 - who went on to name his record label Gingerbread Man.

The cottage dates to the mid 1800s, originally built as the lodge or gate house for Quebec Hall.
