Plans for 975 houses on land off Ellough Road, near Beccles, was first revealed by Larkfleet Homes last year.

A public neighbourhood plan meeting took place at Beccles Library today where locals expressed their concerns over the pressure it could place on local amenities.

One resident who attended the meeting said: 'It is going to put a big pressure on dentists, schools and Beccles Medical Practice.

'Beccles Medical Practice is already struggling to cope with the demand and I spend ages on the phone trying to get through to them. This is only going to get worse if we have 1,000 extra homes coming in.'

The proposal from Larkfleet Homes includes a number of affordable homes as well as plans for a supermarket, neighbourhood centre, primary school and sports facilities.

Neil Osborn, planning consultant for Development, Land and Planning Consultants said there had been talks over an idea to include a new medical practice which he said was refused by the Great Yarmouth and Waveney Clinical Comissioning Group.

The plans are hoped to be chosen as one of the 'preferred options' in the first draft local plan of the New Waveney Local Plan which will be published in June.

An eight week consultation would then be expected to take place over the summer.

Graham Catchpole, the mayor of Beccles, said he had concerns that should the site go ahead it would cause bottlenecks on Ingate and Peddars Lane.

He said: 'The site is a massive field and there would be lots of people coming onto one space.

'As part of the Waveney forward working plan we are looking at having around 1,300 homes built in Beccles.

'If the majority of these homes are put on one site it could cause bottlenecks and that's what we might be looking at down roads such Ingate and Peddars Lane.

'The consultation will be very important and I urge everyone to take part and express their views.'

Mark Mann, planning director at Larkfleet Homes said: 'We are working with Waveney District Council as they bring forward their local plan and as part of that process we are promoting our site off Ellough Road, Beccles as a housing allocation.

'We have met with Worlingham Parish Council and Beccles Neighbourhood Plan Operations Group in preparation of their Neighbourhood Plans.

'If anyone has any questions about our proposal or would like to provide us with any feedback, they can contact us at consultation@athene-communications.co.uk or call 0800 9755852.'
