Dereham Town have wasted no time in naming their new manager following Matt Henman's decision to stand down after nine years in charge.

The new man at the helm is Henman's assistant Neal Simmons, who was given the top job after a committee meeting on Tuesday night.

Simmons, 39, has been at Henman's side throughout an exciting period for the Magpies that has seen them establish themselves in the second tier of the Ryman League. He admits it will feel strange to be taking centre stage - but is excited by the prospect of taking over from his good friend.

'I am delighted that the club has decided to look within for their new manager,' he said. 'Obviously taking over from Matt is a big challenge but it is one I am really looking forward to.'

Simmons said he would be talking to all his players over the next few days while he will announce his assistant in due course.
