A busy pub has closed for a major six-figure refurbishment that will create eight new jobs and include new multi-screen viewing area for sports-mad customers.

The Chase on Newtown in Thetford is being revamped with the bar given a contemporary modern look and a sports viewing area with high quality sound system from multiple screens.

In addition, the beer garden will be extended with added seating and the introduction of outdoor lighting.

The pub, on the busy junction of the A134 Bury Road and London Road, will reopen on September 20 with a series of events including a magician.

Wayne McKay, general manager, said: "The Chase Hungry Horse is at the heart of the local community, so we want to provide our guests with even better surroundings. We're really excited to get the refurbishment underway, and look forward to welcoming our Thetford neighbours. A table magician will kick this off on September 20, and we'd like to invite everyone to come and celebrate with us."
