New Norwich ingredients manufacturer has finger on the pulse

A team of Norfolk agronomists and food manufacturing experts are combining their skills in a new business venture.

Novo Farina, based in Bowthorpe, is rolling out a range of gluten-free products made from British pulses, which it claims are “ideal for the health-conscious”.

The range so far includes two types of flour made from yellow and green peas, as well as whole and split yellow peas. Products in development include a gluten-free “crumb” and high-protein flour varieties.

The company – winner of the Great New Idea competition at the 2018 Ingredients Show – says its products could help the “increasing numbers” of people trying to reduce or remove gluten from their diet as well as playing into the trend for “plant-based diets”.

Business development director Ian Tottman said Novo Farina products have a more neutral taste than other pea pulse flours on the market, which he hopes will broaden their appeal.
