How can we work together to drive up the reputation of our county as a place to do business and create a compelling image of the new Norfolk?
How can we work together to drive up the reputation of our county as a place to do business, and create a compelling image of the new Norfolk?
That will be the question under discussion by a panel of experts on the inaugural Norfolk Day on Friday.
Business leaders will come together in Norwich to discuss Norfolk’s past and future strength and how those skills and strengths can be combined to create an economy fit for the future.
With burgeoning capabilities in life sciences and tech and ground-breaking advancements being made in established sectors like agriculture and manufacturing, Norfolk’s economy has a strong foundation on which to grow.
And though the challenges of issues such as connectivity – both through transport and digital infrastructure – have been well rehearsed, businesses in our county are still competing and succeeding on a global scale.
The Norfolk Day business summit at Norwich’s world-first Aviation Academy will bring together a panel to discuss how the county can address issues such as innovation, productivity and connectivity, but also promote a positive and confident image of itself and its busines scene.
The debate will be streamed live on the EDP Business Twitter page – @edpbusiness – from around 8.15am, and viewers will be able to submit questions for the panellists on Twitter.
On the panel will be:
• Nova Fairbank, public affairs manager at Norfolk Chamber of Commerce;
• Sir Chris Harper, Aviation Skills Partnership eastern regional advisory board;
• Gareth Oakley, Lloyds Banking Group managing director, business banking;
• Jeanette Wheeler, partner at Birketts and New Anglia LEP board member;
• Simon Coward, managing director at Hethel Innovation;
• Marcus Hemsley, co-director at Fountain Partnership.
The summit is being sponsored by Lloyds Banking Group. Norfolk Day is an initiative jointly supported by the Eastern Daily Press and Norwich Evening News and the BBC.
Mark Shields, Eastern Daily Press business editor, said: “Norfolk’s economy is exciting and thriving, with long-established strengths and growing dominance in new areas.
“But day after day, we hear from Norfolk companies who are concerned that an outdated image of the county is negatively affecting their ability to do business with companies around the UK and abroad.
“With Brexit fast approaching, now is the time to make sure businesses are in the best position possible to seize opportunities, wherever they arise from.”
