A day-long cycling extravaganza is being planned in Old Buckenham as the village gears up to become the ultimate destination to watch the Tour of Britain.

Members of the community in the Breckland village, near Attleborough, have come together to form a Tour of Britain organising committee.

The group is organising a plethora events for before and after the peloton of professional riders race through their village between 1pm and 2pm on September 12.

Plans in the pipeline include a mass village bike ride in the morning, which is designed for all the family, and a series of bike races in the afternoon. There will also be a fair, barbecue and beer festival plus food and craft stalls. And in a bid to attract cyclists from across the county to ride to the picturesque village to watch the Tour, there will be secure bike parking and plenty of coffee and cake.

Stephen Rumbelow, from the organising committee and a member of Old Bucks Velo, said: 'We are planning lots of activities to make Old Buckenham the ultimate destination to watch the Tour.

'It's a really lovely community, everyone gets together and it's a lovely setting with the village green. We're hoping it will be a fantastic day for families and cyclists to enjoy the Tour.' Organised by Diss and District Cycling Club, the criterium bike races will be held on closed roads around the village green.

Races will vary in length from 10 minutes for youths to 40 minutes for adults.

There will be races for beginners and those with British Cycling race licences.

Elsewhere, nearby Attleborough is planning an Attleborough Bike Festival 2015 for September 12.
