A children's charity is calling on businesses to help it reach a £20,000 fundraising target to mark its 20th anniversary.

Nelson's Journey, the county's child bereavement charity, is joining forces with 20 local businesses to achieve its fundraising goal – enough to cover the salary of a child bereavement support worker.

The charity has so far received 780 referrals for support during 2017 – only six shy of its total for 2016 and more than it received in its first decade of operations. It has delivered child bereavement support training to more than 1,000 professionals.

It expects the demand for its services to only increase in the coming years, emphasising the need for such bold fundraising initiatives.

Simon Wright, chief executive of Nelson's Journey, said the charity was only seeking one more company to take part in its Twenty20 scheme, with 19 businesses already signed up.

'We are really excited about working with so many Norfolk businesses in our 20th year,' he said.

'I am struck by their enthusiasm to work together, helping to raise sufficient funds to cover the salary of a professional child bereavement support worker throughout the year.

'With demand for our services growing all the time, the support of the local business community is essential as we seek to grow our capacity to help Norfolk's bereaved children.'

Mr Wright added: 'We already have 19 businesses signed up. We are seeking just one more business who wishes to celebrate our 20th birthday by joining the Twenty20 scheme.'

Businesses taking part in the Twenty20 initiative include: Westcotec, Hilltop Outdoor Centre, East of England Co-op Funeral Services, Perfect Placement, Stobart and Hurrell, Insight Financial Associates, Jaya Dance, Potters Resort, Rosedale Funeral Homes, Richard Jarmy Photography, Naked Wines, Kier Housing Maintenance, Loveday and Partners, Arthur Jary and Sons, Body Transform Fitness, Hughes, Finance Shop, Adams and Howling and Archant Dialogue.
