A digital innovation at law firm Mills & Reeve has received national recognition.

The company, which has an office in St James' Court in Norwich, won the marketing innovation award at the fourth annual Legal Week Awards for its website cohabitation-law.co.uk – the first dedicated resource for couples who live together but are not married, of whom there are now 3.3m in the UK.

A survey of 1,000 cohabiting couples by the firm to highlight the myth of 'common law marriage' found that 35% either believed they had the same rights as married couples, or did not know.

Trevor Comyn, director of knowledge, learning and development at Mills and Reeve, said: 'We are dedicated to building an innovative culture in the firm – it's not just about big ideas, but acting on ideas that improve the way we work.

'The cohabitation website was about us acting on a need in the market and being ahead of the curve.'
