A business event being held in Lowestoft next week is to look at how the region is poised to play a significant role in the nuclear energy sector.
The event, rganised by the East of England Energy Group (EEEGr), will explore all aspects of the sector from potential new reactors at Sizewell and Bradwell, in Essex, to decommissioning old plants.
Nuclear Industry Association spokesman John McNamara will be speaking at the event. He ackowledged the current crisis in Japan and added: “Our government’s approach is responsible and sensible. Both they and the UK nuclear industry are clear that new nuclear build will go ahead in this country to secure our long term environmental and security of supply needs.
“We need therefore to continue urgently with our work to develop and expand the capability within the UK nuclear supply chain to build a fleet of nuclear power stations here, while at the same time learning any lessons from Fukushima.”
The event will include updates on the sector, including new build planned for this region, the opportunities for new and existing business in the region.
The seminar, Doing Business in the Nuclear Industry, is at OrbisEnergy on Thursday, March 29.
