A Norwich shopping district has been handed a pre-Christmas boost after an independent cinema committed its future to the area.

Anglia Square Shopping Centre and Hollywood Cinemas have agreed a new long-term lease on the four-screen multiplex ahead of the new year.

It comes after the city cinema, which also has businesses in Dereham, Great Yarmouth and Fakenham, was thrust into the limelight in 2012 when it hosted the global premier of the Alan Partridge blockbuster, Alpha Papa.

Trevor Wicks, director at Hollywood Cinemas, said: 'We are extremely happy to continue our long-standing and successful cinema operation in Anglia Square and look forward to continuing to offer the biggest films at value for money prices in the future.'

The renewal of Hollywood Cinemas' long-term commitment coincides with a busy Christmas period in which Anglia Square has seen an upsurge in footfall, the shopping centre said.

Eric Kirk, centre manager at Anglia Square Shopping Centre, added: 'These lease renewals demonstrate the confidence that retail businesses have in Anglia Square and really reinforce how important we are as a community shopping destination in north Norwich.'
