An event celebrating the harvests of yesteryear has donated thousands of pounds to ensure the future is bright for its local village.

The Skeyton Michaelmas Trosh, held in September, raised £5,200 which has now been handed over to representatives from local causes at a presentation evening at the Goat Inn, Skeyton.

Skeyton Village Hall, Skeyton Church and Buxton Sea Scouts each received £1,500 while the village sign replacement fund got £500 and Phoenix Bird of Prey Rescue was given £200.

The Trosh, which dusts off bygone machinery and puts it back in the spotlight, started 10 years ago when around 50 people attended, but by this year attendance had grown to nearly 1,000.

The committee said it was “quite an achievement” to be in a position to donate such a large amount of money.

It is now preparing next year’s event which will take place on September 30 at Brecks Farm, Skeyton.
