Norfolk dairy farms fought off competition from across the country to claim national British Friesian titles at the Borderway UK Dairy Expo 2018 in Carlisle.
Tim Barrell and Ava Malt, from Shipdham, near Dereham, claimed the junior champion prize with Gemini Ignitor Primrose 3, and the senior British Friesian grand champion trophy went to a cow from the Burroughs family's Oakalby Herd, based at Wheatacre, near Beccles.
Herdsman Robert Ives said he was thrilled to see the winning animal, named Oakalby Quadrant Cathy 50, take the top prize on her first show appearance.
'She is one that slipped under the net as a heifer, but as a second-calver she has bloomed,' he said. 'She took to the ring like a duck to water. I put a halter on to train her and in two hours she had her head up walking like a dream.
'I have not showed for about 10-11 years, so it is quite a nice achievement to go back to this.'
Mr Ives said the cow has already produced more than 6,000 litres in her second lactation, and is projected to produce 8,500 next lactation.
