Costa coffee is facing continued questions over the opening of their new store in Cromer.

The brand submitted a new application in January 2018 for illuminated signage to be erected above the main entrance of the cafe, facing out onto Church Street.

This would be one of the few illuminated signs on the main shopping street in the town.

The Cromer town council (CTC) have objected to the planning application on a number of levels.

These include the close proximity to grade I and II listed buildings, the sign being unsuitable for the conservation area, and also state that the street lights in the town are adequate to illuminate shop fronts.

Similar objections were raised by the CTC around Costa's previous application, which also made fascia requests.

Councillor Tim Adams said: 'We tend to say externally lit signs are fine- but this is internally lit.

'We've always tended to protect the conservation area, and the street lights in Cromer are more than adequate, all shop fronts can be seen even at night, they're not invisible.'

This was approved by the planning committee at the North Norfolk District Council, however Costa have been forced to submit another as they want to change the colours on the signs.

The final decision will ultimately be made by the NNDC planning committee.
