Cromer is reacting to the rumours that the founder of English rock band The Libertines plans to open a hotel - complete with studio, nightclub, and a bar - on the seafront.

Singer Pete Doherty revealed fellow frontman Carl Barat's plans in an interview with music bible Q Magazine.

The chart star, famous for hits such as Can't Stand Me Now, Time for Heroes and What a Waster, is quoted as saying: 'He's been nest-egging [...] All our advances.

'He's got this gaff now, on the seafront, I won't say where.'

'We're gonna open a Libertines Hotel. With a studio, nightclub, a bar. He's dead set on it.'

Barat previously hinted the seafront setting could provide the inspiration for new material for the band.

He is quoted as telling the NME: 'We're looking to bed in together. We want to get our own place, which is a bit of a long and convoluted project.'

Although no mention is made of Cromer in the article, a picture of the town is used to illustrate the article which was shared by commercial radio station, Radio X.

And, earlier this year, The Bath House - a former hotel on the Promenade, next to the town's pier - was advertised for sale for a guide price of £1.1 million.

The agents, Savills, said: 'The Bath House is an important and iconic landmark building situated on the sea front in the centre of Cromer with outstanding views over the superb Victorian Pier (currently being restored) and out to sea.

'The building which has recently been lavishly restored, has a fascinating history, very much bound up in Cromer's development as one of the most fashionable seaside resorts in England.'

Commenting on the story, which has been shared on the town's page on Facebook, Stuart Webb said: 'Pete is getting a hotel in Cromer!!!'

But Debbie Reynolds replied: 'Please tell me this isn't true!'

Paul Willson said: 'Could well be, although it doesn't say that. Just someone has put a picture of Cromer there.'

Abi Holmes said: 'Haha this would be great.' Jennifer Marie Mead said: 'Doubt it's true but it would be awesome if it was!!!!!'

But Rachel Leverton added: 'He'll ruin Cromer if he does.'

Alternatively, the former Bouncers Bar building in Holt Road, Cromer, is currently unoccupied, while plans have still to be approved for the former Shannocks Hotel on the seafront in neighbouring Sheringham.
