Simon Brown, Managing Director of Cooper Lomaz Recruitment, seeks a 'one-click' solution to the modern job search.

Not so long ago, if you were a job hunter it meant walking in to the nearest convenience store, buying the local newspaper and flicking through the pages.

If this was not your desired approach, you could always print off your CV and send a letter to as many organisations as possible.

This was a time when Royal Mail was at its peak and people used either actual printers or a photocopier.

As technology has evolved, so has the speed in which the recruitment process moves. From fax machines (those in recruitment long enough will remember queuing up to fax CVs to their clients) through to recent developments like chatbots, technology in recruitment is designed to enable better, quicker decisions.

These technology advancements in recruitment should have led to a simpler way of finding a job or finding an employee, but has this really happened?

With so many places to promote yourself and a wide range of ways to contact prospective employers and employees, has technology actually made it harder to find your dream job or hire by overcomplicating it?

Whereas in the days of looking through the paper and posting your CV you just had to think about updating one document, now you have to remember to update it on the various platforms it is stored, too. This is before you even think about social media! You have to remember to update your LinkedIn profile, Facebook, Twitter and any other sources you want to use to aid your search. It is now much harder to keep on top of something which used to be so simple.

As an employer, writing an advert for the newspaper telling people what skills they need to have to fill your vacancy is no longer enough.

You now need to ensure you are selling your business as a place to work in a consistent way across a raft of platforms, including your website, press releases and various social media sites. Again, while the audience is much bigger, the use of technology has made this process more complicated.

While technology has complicated the process for job seekers and businesses, there is no doubt that it has made the process quicker, and opened up opportunities that you may not have been aware of previously.

Technology has enabled people access to a plethora of information at their fingertips wherever and whenever they want it, helping them to

make the right decision for their next role or hire.In today's world, we expect instant results at the click of a button, so maybe the next step for technology in recruitment is to give a 'one click' solution to updating your details and messages across all of the tools you use in your search.
