Green business hub opening its doors for Norfolk Day
PUBLISHED: 06:30 07 June 2018
Today marks 50 days until the first ever Norfolk Day celebration on July 27. This week we find out how a university-based business hub is getting involved.
A beach party, building crafts and special tours will be on offer at a green business hub for Norfolk Day.
On Friday, July 27 the Enterprise Centre, part of Norwich’s University of East Anglia (UEA), will be opening its doors from 11am.
The modern environmentally-friendly building, managed by Adapt Low Carbon Group, was opened in 2015 and provides office space for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) which work alongside UEA students and academics.
But despite it being a new building it remains strong to its Norfolk roots thanks to its building materials.
The star of the building is a thatched roof which uses Norfolk reed and local straw has been used in the external walls.
Hour-long tours will be held throughout the building and a beach party, hosted by Mustard Café, will take place on Earlham Park.
The beach party will have an international theme reflecting the centre’s wider business links.
A barbecue will start from 12.30pm.
Angela Macdonald, business development manager for the Enterprise Centre, said: “We are very keen to support the Norfolk Day initiative. It seems very exciting with the potential of putting Norfolk on the map.
“There is so much of the building which links up to Norfolk.”
The “modern and innovative” space, which can be hired for public events, also opens its doors for the Heritage Open Days event.
Mrs Macdonald added that Norfolk Day was an opportunity for people to find out more about the centre.
“It is an important and nice building.”
She said the centre helped the university become part of the business community and provide SMEs “high-end office space”.
University graduates can work in the building which can host up to 35 companies or tenants at one time.
It can also support 36 virtual tenants.

Norfolk Day shop
An online shop has been launched selling Norfolk Day marketing material which event organisers can display on the day.
The shop is selling a four-pack of flags, four-pack of A3 posters and 20 balloons at £4, while 5m of bunting is £7.50.
Celebration packs containing all of the above are available for £15.
Norfolk Day takes place on Friday, July 27 and is intended as a day of fun in which individuals, community groups and businesses are encouraged to get involved by hosting or participating in events.
The initiative was launched by the EDP and Norwich Evening News in partnership with BBC Radio Norfolk and has the backing of business and community organisations who are planning events for the day.
Details of events will be revealed in the newspaper, online and via social media.
