The Ashmanhaugh Light Railway (ALR) held an open day on Sunday, June 23, to celebrate the thirtieth birthday of one of its engines and remember the railway which gave it its start.

Organiser Peter Harvey said: "We've had about 150 people here, which is what we tend to get on an open day.

"We've got Thunderbox - a 30-year-old locomotive - running which hasn't run for three years.

"We've got some displays about Little Melton Railway (LMR), which, when it closed, formed the base of the ALR."

He added: "It's been really lovely weather and we've had our usual ice creams and refreshments on."

The event, at East View Farm, Ashmanhaugh, was attended by the family of the late LMR founder Bob Brett.

"They've told us all sorts of stories about him," added Mr Harvey.
