Artists across Norfolk throw open their doors to visitors

A woman who uses 15th-century painting methods and exhibits internationally is among hundreds of artists inviting people to visit their studios.

More than 400 artists are taking part in Norfolk & Norwich Open Studios to display contemporary paintings, textiles, prints, sculptures, photographs and ceramics until June 10.

Visitors can see the artist at work, discuss their work and find out about the creative ideas and techniques used.

In Breckland, 30 artists in 24 venues are taking part, including Maz Jackson who was born in New Buckenham and lives in East Harling. She has been painting in Norfolk all her life and the richness of the landscape is reflected in her work. Painting with 15th-century methods, Maz exhibits locally and has won national and international awards and has exhibited in gallery and museum collections around the globe, from Beijing to New York, Florence to Chetumal and have represented the UK at Florence and Venice Biennale.

In Attleborough, Amy Allcroft, who graduated from Norwich University of the Arts in Illustration last year, has converted a barn into her studio. She has designed and illustrated the poster for Southburgh World Music festival, a map for Play Fest festival and illustrations for the book 'Alfred The Lonely Pigeon'.

Art trails have also been set up around the county which enable visitors to explore the countryside and call into a number of studios in one day. There are trails in Norwich and Castle Acre, among other places.
