Wroxham have announced the resignation of manager Damian Hilton, with the club sitting joint-bottom of the Ryman League Division One North table.

Hilton had returned to the club midway through last season after success with Norwich United at step five of the non-league pyramid.

However, the Yachtsmen were afforded a relegation reprieve after finishing 22nd and have lost eight of their last 11 matches this season to remain under threat from relegation.

The decision has been announced following a 4-0 home defeat to another of the division's struggling sides, Waltham Abbey, on Saturday.

Wroxham have released a statement this afternoon, which says: 'The club would like to thank Damian for his hard work and contribution this season which has been much appreciated by all connected with the club. Chairman Kevin Attree would additionally like to take this opportunity to wish Damian all the best for the future.

'David Coyle will assume the position of first team manager until the end of the season and has the full support of the club behind him. Assisting David, Kaine Challen will be stepping up from the reserve management team.

'Wroxham travel to King's Lynn Town on Tuesday night for a Norfolk Senior Cup quarter-final tie. Their next Ryman League game is Saturday when they visit Phoenix Sports.'

Hilton had previously played for and managed Wroxham so was tempted back to Trafford Park in February 2016, despite the Yachtsmen being at risk of relegation.

Having won the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division with Norwich United in 2015, he then left his assistant John Edridge and Steve Eastaugh to lead the Planters to their title defence and subsequent promotion to Ryman North.

The Blofield-based club have since kicked on and are currently eighth in the table but Wroxham are 23rd and 12 points from safety with 13 games to play.

With a young squad and small budget, Coyle and Challen will now face a mighty challenge in securing a sixth season at step four for the Yachtsmen.
