Norwich City could renew their transfer interest in Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle in January.

The London Evening Standard claimed on Friday Gayle remains a potential target for the Canaries, who had lined up a reported £11m move in the final days of the summer transfer window before the Eagles' backed out of the deal.

Gayle was regularly touted with a Norwich close-season move after rejecting the chance to join Championship strugglers Bristol City and the Standard report Alan Pardew could be willing to finally sanction the 25-year-old's exit if they line up a suitable replacement.

Gayle is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury suffered in the 0-0 Premier League draw against Manchester United in late October. The former Peterborough striker scored a hat-trick in the Capital One Cup 4-1 win over Charlton, but had failed to score a league goal in six appearances this season.

Alex Neil bolstered his strikeforce prior to the new season with the signing of Dynamo Kiev's Diuemerci Mbokani but Gary Hooper is on loan at Sheffield Wednesday until mid-January and Kyle Lafferty continues to be heavily touted with a New Year departure as he looks for regular football ahead of Northern Ireland's Euro 2016 appearance next summer.
