Seb Bassong knows just what parent club Norwich City are going through – but says there is no reason to panic.

The 28-year-old defender is out of favour with Neil Adams and Co and is six weeks into a three-month loan deal at Watford, who went into the international break on the back of consecutive away defeats after losing 1-0 at City's East Anglian rivals Ipswich.

Back in Norwich, City have to overcome the pain of surrendering a lead and going down 2-1 in the final minutes at Nottingham Forest, taking their poor run of form to one win in eight.

This weekend City look to repair the damage at home to Brighton while Bassong and Watford face table-topping Derby. And Basssong admits Watford – three points ahead of Adams' squad in fifth – must answer the same questions as the Canaries.

'There is no need to panic. That doesn't get you anywhere. There is a long way to go still,' he said.

'We have plenty of games to play and we will win the majority of those I hope. Of course you will also lose some but we have to look at the bigger picture and take a step back, we are not in a bad position. We just have to try and get this winning mentality back, then we'll be fine.

'It is really tight at the top.

'The team who makes the difference is the ones who go back-to-back for as long as possible to create a gap.

'That has to be our aim and hopefully it is us.'

Bassong returned to the Watford line-up at Portman Road after a calf injury, but the Cameroon international was unable to halt the Blues' promotion charge.

'It was a scrappy game but in those type of matches you just have to try and score, especially when you get a couple of chances like we had,' he told the Hornets' official website.

'We would have preferred to go into the break with a win, but I think we can are a good enough team to bounce back.'
