Daniel Farke is confident Norwich City’s squad will reap the benefits of a successful German bonding trip after an impressive 3-1 friendly victory at DSC Arminia Bielefeld.

The Canaries finished with a perfect winning record after beating MSV Duisburg earlier in the week.

Steven Naismith, Cameron Jerome and Nelson Oliveira were all on target but it was the manner of City’s composed display and tactical nous that pleased Farke.

“It was quite important for the whole atmosphere in the squad to be together, especially with the new lads,” he said. “We worked on our physical performance defensively and I am really content with this week. We know it is pre-season but right now at this time of the pre-season I have nothing but compliments.

“I am very pleased. I expected a really hard game against a solid German second division club who were opening their home season. They were really aggressive and motivated because they start the season next weekend. So, you could feel this in the first minutes but we dominated more and more and calmed everything down. We defended everything well, apart from one situation, and we deserved to be leading at half-time.

“The second half we dominated and could score more than three. I am very content. So only compliments for the guys.”

Farke was less than impressed with the manner of Andreas Voglsammer’s leveller for Bielefeld, after City were cut open with a hopeful ball forward.

“It was a nursery mistake. Just a long ball,” he said. “We had two against one for us in a duel and lost the ball in midfield. It was too easy to concede the goal. We don’t have to work on this point because it is basic behaviour. The guys know what the mistake was. I am not content with conceding such a goal.”

City again only had 16 senior players on duty in Bielefeld but Farke is not expecting arrivals in the next few days.

“Not the end of the week I don’t expect any new players to come in,” he said. “But we have picked up some bad injuries with Timm (Klose) and Alex (Pritchard).

“They are really important players for us but I will work with the guys who are here and for both these games we had 16 players. Normally you would say that is too big a load but we fought against setbacks and tiredness.”
