Russell Martin is not planning a Norwich City return any time soon.

The long-serving defender fell out of favour under Daniel Farke just a month into the Championship season, before sealing a January loan move to Rangers.

Martin has a contract at Carrow Road until 2019, but the Scottish international eyes a longer stay at Ibrox when his short term deal runs out at the end of the current campaign.

'I've made it known I want to stay so I will have to keep doing well enough to make sure that happens,' he said.

'I want to be here and there's still a lot to play for. We have the cup and we need to finish second in the league, it's as simple as that. We need to try to haul the points back, and I'm enjoying everything about being at the football club.'

The 31-year-old has had an eventful spell in Glasgow, with a back problem forcing him out of Scotland's friendly against Costa Rica tonight and the trip to Hungary next week as well as the recent Old Firm defeat to their bitter rivals.

Martin was also filmed prior to that grudge match being abused by Celtic supporters.

'It is one of those things.

'It's the first time it's happened, and I don't think it's a regular occurrence for any of the lads,' he said. 'It is what it is. I didn't think anything of it to be honest until I got a phone call about it.

'It's disappointing but not indicative of the people up here or what I have found at all. It's a really small minority, and we move on.'

Martin reportedly visited a back specialist earlier this week, but is confident he will be fit for the run-in to help Rangers recover from consecutive home league defeats to the champions-elect and Kilmarnock.

'We just need to keep working.

'Even though we've been on a great run, we're not the finished article at all,' he said, speaking to the Daily Record.

'It's a process and it takes a long time to get to where the manager wants us to be. We have to make sure we put it right and keep working on the same things.

'They will pay off.

'It's the way at a big club like this, and you have to be able to cope with that. What I would say is that we were on a brilliant run to put ourselves in a good position and we have to make sure that happens again.'
