Daniel Farke admitted he thought Alex Tettey had suffered a career-ending injury after being stretchered off with a gashed foot in Tuesday's spirited 1-1 Championship draw at Barnsley.

Tettey will travel back to Norwich with the rest of the squad and will now undergone scans to assess the extent of his foot injury after collapsing to the turf late on at Oakwell.

Farke revealed he feared the worst in the immediate aftermath of a tangle with his own player James Husband, which came during City's most dominant spell following Josh Murphy's 72nd minute equaliser to cancel out Ollie McBurnie's first half opener.

'It was a strange situation. A really shocking moment,' said Farke.

'I am pleased my players were able to play on and concentrate. He got hit on the foot and the blood was coming out like water. We all got the feeling he had a hole in his foot and it was the end of his career.

'First diagnosis was just that he injured a vein, which is why it was gushing blood.

'The physios were able to stop the bleeding.

'Now we wait for the doctor to confirm if there is anything broken but it doesn't look so bad.

'In that moment on the pitch it was a strange feeling.

'You forget about the game and realise some things are more important than football. It looked really horrible. We will now get a scan to see how deep the damage is.'

Farke hailed his depleted side's fighting spirit, with Christoph Zimmermann playing through a sickness bug.

'We had ill players on the bench, some who shouldn't play on the pitch,' he said.

'I wanted to rest Alex but Harrison Reed was not available. He travelled and sat on the bench, but no chance to play.

'The same almost with Christoph. He had lost six kilos in weight but we got the feeling we needed him on the pitch for however long.

'After 50 minutes or so we got the feeling he was close to a breakdown. It was a strange situation.

'We had James, Mario Vrancic and Marley Watkins on the pitch not having played much.

'I think in the first half we were not brave enough to play our style and maybe too defensive. But after so many changes and conceding four goals at Hull that was a normal reaction. Then we conceded in the 45th minute and after the break we returned to our style and I was pretty pleased.'
