Morris Bacon (Strada Sport) won the Velo Club Baracchi road race on his home roads just south of Bungay, outdistancing VC Norwich newcomer Andrew Taylor and Ian Perry (Velo Schils) after the trio had maintained a precarious lead for the last 80 minutes of the 68-mile race.

Promoted by the Lowestoft-based club on a Ringsfield, Ilketshall, Redisham circuit, there was a frenetic first lap followed by an early unsuccessful break by Bacon and Sam Toy of Velo Schils. Then VCB's Liam Gentry led a seven-rider escape attempt. When that was caught, the successful three attacked on Roman Stone Street and consolidated their lead in the narrower lanes towards Redisham.

Approaching the finish, Taylor led out – perhaps just too early – and Bacon took the win.

Meanwhile in Hertfordshire Bacon's Strada Sport team-mate Tommy Power helped sustain a successful four-man break. On the finish hill Power attacked first but had to settle for fourth, while Ross Fawcett (Pedal Power Ipswich) took the win.

In the Eastern Youth Circuit Series on a windswept Alconbury Airfield, King's Lynn CC's Florence Barnett was Under 12 girls winner.

In the East District CA 100 the angle of the wind on the Wymondham-Snetterton road resulted in competitors feeling the stiff breeze more in their faces than behind them and times recorded – considering the class of the entry – were not spectacular. Nevertheless women's winner Jun Smart (VC Norwich) was well pleased with her 4:28:43.

Men's winner was visitor Steve Ayres (Bronte Wheelers) in 3:45:16. Local riders coming to prominence included Ben Stancombe (King's Lynn CC), recording 3-52:10 for second place and Dan Bromilow (Ely and District) 3-56:30. Also inside four hours were King's Lynn riders Ben Keeley (3-58:05) and Dale Sturman (West Suffolk Whs, 3-59:00).

In MTB racing at Hintlesham, near Ipswich, Lowestoft fireman Seb Herrod had a four-minute win over Lee Woodcock (HKR) in Men's Elite/Expert. On a hard, dry course, including a 30mph descent down the side of a cornfield, Norwich rider Jimmy Piper (MS Society) took the 50-plus age group from Richard Muchmore.
