Chris Henderson says his decision to leave Lowestoft Town for pastures new was a tough one to make.

Henderson has agreed to join Suffolk rivals Leiston after six seasons with the Isthmian Premier Division side.

'I had a few options to consider this summer and, while it's not been an easy decision, I have been massively impressed with the ambition and vision for the club that was sold to me by Andy (Crisp, Leiston chairman) and Glenn (Driver, manager),' he explained.

'What came across when I spoke with them was a real determination to build on last season and take the club forward and I can't wait to play my part in doing that.

'As I said, it was a tough decision for me to make as I've spent the last six years at Lowestoft. I had some great times there and developed a really good relationship with the staff and the fans, but I just felt that I wanted a fresh start and new challenge.'

Leiston boss Driver hailed the midfielder as 'one of the best all-round players in the division'.

'Signing Chris Henderson is a very exciting signing for both myself but more importantly Leiston Football Club – he is without doubt one of the best all-round players in the division,' said Driver, who has also signed Dominic Docherty, who was with Lowestoft last season.

'He can play in many positions but will apply his trade in the centre of our midfield, donning the number eight shirt.

'After seeing him play four times last season he was a player I wanted to work with – his appetite for the game is excellent.

'He strives to be the best and will add so much to the way we play.

'I would personally like to thank Andy Crisp and the board of directors for supporting my decision to bring him to Leiston.'

Henderson follows Ryan Jarvis and Frazer Blake-Tracy out of Lowestoft – both have signed for King's Lynn Town. Incomings have included full-back Callum White, Jacek Zielonka – who has returned after a spell at King's Lynn Town – and goalkeepers Ben Dudzinski and Elvijs Putnins, another returnee.

Lowestoft have a friendly at home to Waveney on Tuesday before Norwich City pay a visit on Saturday, July 8.
