Daniel Bainbridge and Don Baker finished first and second in the senior boys javelin. Bainbridge took the lead early in the competition with a throw of 60 metres 03 and he held the lead until the end.

Baker threw a fine distance of 59 metres 36 to ensure a unique double for Norfolk.

Bainbridge, a student at Langley School, will go on to competitions in Belgium and the Czech Republic.

Baker, who is at Easton College, has been selected to represent Great Britain at the World Youth Championships in the Bahamas.

Oliver Massingham, who threw the discus for English Schools in France recently, finished third in the senior boys event with a throw of 47 metres 58.

This was less than a metre behind the winner, such are the fine margins at this level.

Eleanor Brown finished fourth in the junior (under 15) girls long jump with a fine distance of 5 metres 37. She can be pleased with that performance in the highest level of competition.

Newcomer Denis Assongo-Tree finished an excellent fifth in the under 17 boys triple jump with a distance of 13 metres 47. Again, such are the fine margins that another 20 centimetres would have made him a schools international.

On the track, Jack White will be pleased with finishing eighth in the under 17 boys 3,000m metres in 8:47.11, he took the lead at one point in what was a tactical race. Incidentally, the oldest English Schools record is in the 3,000 metres and that is still held by Kevin Steere.

Another City of Norwich athlete, Serena Grace, ran well to make the final of the junior girl`s 100m and finished eighth in 12.56 seconds.

Lucy Koenigsberger was ninth in the under 17 girls hammer event with a throw of 50 metres 55.

Kate Willis was perhaps unlucky not to make the final of the junior girls 800m when she finished fourth in her heat in 2:17.69 secs. Meredith Winship ran 2:14.43 to finish third in her under 17 800m heat.
