It was a busy weekend for Horning Sailing Club with no fewer than three separate events taking place over September 2/3.

The Sailing Club hosted a Yare & Bure Open Meeting on Hoveton Little Broad, attracting nine competitors, including two visiting boats, one from NBYC and one from NPC.

Saturday afternoon's racing began with light winds and racing was reasonably uneventful, although close with plenty of changing places. Matt Ford and Chris Bunn sailing Fox (NBYC) started strongly with a win, ahead of Rosy Wave helmed by Alastair Fields and Kevin Blackwell (HSC). The second race saw Simon and Fil Daniels sailing Silver Blue (NPC) win, with Fox second. Ron Jackson and Julia Bower in Holly Blue were third in both races.

Meanwhile on Saturday a team of eight young sailors represented Horning Sailing Club in the Broadland Youth Regatta held at Waveney & Oulton Broad Yacht Club, competing against five teams from local clubs, and winning the Centenary Salver for the second year running.

On Sunday the winds were more challenging, having shifted from NE on Saturday to SW on Sunday, and varying from flat calm to relatively gusty.

Club racing continued on the river, with light winds and a strong tide in the morning and the winds picking up significantly during the day.

Fox added a further three wins to take the weekend overall, whilst a second and two thirds were enough for Silver Blue to be placed second. The Rebel and Yeoman fleets were particularly strong, the Rebels even joined by the Wherry Albion on their start!

Of the five Rebels racing, Lucky Rebel and Rebel H, helmed by Alex Humphris and Kevin Edwards respectively, won two races each, whilst in the eight strong Yeoman fleet there was a different winner for each race - Gordon Jewell (Charlie Brown), Toby Fields (Tanskey), Geoff Stubbs (Tara) and Roger Hannant (Firefly).
