Norfolk's four qualifiers made it as far as the quarter-finals at the National Championships at Melton Mowbray IBC.

The singles opened the four-day event and all four Norfolk entries made it through the group stages.

Norfolk singles champion Gary Best of Bob Carter won Group 15, his club team-mate Jason Woods ran away with Group 2 with wins of 14-6, 12-6 & 14-4 and looked in superb form. Wymondham's Chris Mann lost his opening game 12-7 to West Yorkshire's Darren Cookson but recovered well to qualify for the knock-out stages as runner-up in Group 11. Hempnall's Neil Davidson opened with a 17-4 win and topped his group on shot difference.

The first knock-out round saw two Norfolk bowlers eliminated – Mann was beaten 10-3 by North Yorkshire's Bronagh Toleman and Woods went down 9-4 to West Mid's Josh Towey. Best continued his push for the title with a 12-7 win against Devon's Paul Pomeroy while Davidson powered past Surrey's Debbie Johns with a terrific 13-0 scoreline.

But Best's run came to an end when he lost 8-7 to eventual winner Ryan Knight of Gloucestershire, but Davidson made it to the quarter-finals before losing to Mitchell Harvey of West Mids.

In the, Laura Hawksworth and Neil Davidson played well to reach the last 16 but Owen Cranston and Chris Mann made it to the quarters and went out to the last bowl of the match, 10-8, against Josh Hale and Ross Dinkley of West Mids.

In the fours, Keith Cooke's rink lost 11-2 against Bill Burn's Cheshire in the last 16. Debbie Sparham, Simon Warnes, Chris Mann and Jon Sparham claimed a major scalp as they beat Oxfordshire's Geoff Cross, Roger Wiggins, Gareth Davis and AJ Brown 9-4, but went out 5-4 to Jack Rollings' West Sussex rink in the quarters.

The final day saw the triples in action, with three of the four Norfolk qualifiers reaching the last 16.

Unfortunately one was sure to go as Melvin Woods' triple came up against Jack Pye's triple in an all-Norfolk clash. A tight match saw Woods' triple win 10-7. Simon Willies' triple went out 10-2 to a Devon trio. In the quarter-finals Nigel Willard, John Turner and Woods lost 11-4 to a strong Cheshire triple.
