Almost 50 luxury apartments are being created from a 1970s office block in the city.
A 1970s office block housing Norwich Coroner's Court is being transformed into 47 luxury apartments, which have now gone on sale.
There are no immediate plans for the coroner's office, situated at Eastgate House, Thorpe Road, to move despite the development of the rest of complex which has lain empty for four years.
The development is the latest conversion of empty office stock in the city into residential use with one and two bedroom apartments created over four floors. Some of the apartments boast good views across the city and with the railway station in walking distance, are ideal for commuters.
Martyn Baum, group residential manager of Arnolds Keys, selling the apartments, said: 'We are seeing a boom in the popularity of new apartments created out of former city centre office blocks.
'These of course will never have the kerb appeal of a country cottage; but what they lack in exterior aesthetics is more than made up for in the quality of life they offer.
'City centre living is becoming more and more fashionable. People like the fact that they have all the city's leisure amenities on their doorstep and can walk to work, avoiding the rush hour traffic and can be home again in a few minutes at the end of the day.'
The building was granted planning permission for the conversion in 2013 and sold at the end of 2015 with the coroner's office still operating on a lease which expires in 2021. A spokesman from the office today confirmed there were no 'immediate plans' to vacate early.
Eastgate House will include a lift to each floor where apartments will have video entry systems and they can be bought using the government's Help to Buy scheme, making them an attractive option for first time buyers, with prices ranging from £125,000-£242,000. Car parking is available at an additional cost.
