Coastal communities are being asked to get involved in a project to boost visitors' and residents' knowledge of a cliff-top environment.

The Norfolk Coast Partnership wants to look at the past, present and future of human habitation, geology and biodiversity along the soft cliffs between Happisburgh and Weybourne for a potential project involving different activities and projects.

Residents from communities between those areas can attend drop-in events to let the partnership know what ideas they would like to see happen.

Estelle Hook, policy and partnership officer for the organisation, said: 'We are interested in stories of people living on the coast, oral histories, old pictures and stories.

'It is a recognition that there will be more people walking along the England Coast Path [between Sea Palling and Weybourne].

'We want them to value it and know more about it.

'We are going to see what people are interested in.

'The area is of equal value to any other part of the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) but is very much undervalued at the moment, compared to the rest of it.'

She added the partnership was keen to hear about positive stories about how the area has changed and how communities have adapted to those changes.

In May last year, 800,000-year-old human footprints were discovered in Happisburgh. Miss Hook described the find as 'stunning'.

The partnership, which promotes the sustainable use of the Norfolk Coast AONB, wants to hear from potential volunteers or artists who would like to get involved.

Drop-in sessions will be held at Overstrand Village Hall on April 29; Sheringham Oddfellows Hall on April 30; Mundesley Coronation Hall on May 7; and the Wenn Evans Centre in Happisburgh on May 8; all between 3pm-7.30pm.

The partnership hopes to apply to the Heritage Lottery Fund Landscape Partnerships scheme by the end of next month. A decision about the funding will be made in October and the three-year project could take up to 18 months to put together.
