Trains between Norwich and Ipswich are likely to be suspended for the rest of the day, Greater Anglia said.

Various rail services across Norfolk were cancelled this morning due high winds damaging lines and bringing down trees.

Train operator Greater Anglia said: 'Many of our services were disrupted due to the storm as strong winds brought down trees onto the track, overhead lines and gantries, so we were unable to run our trains. Five of our trains were also damaged by falling trees.

'We were unable to run services from Norwich to Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft, and between North Walsham and Sheringham for most of the morning.

'Services between Norwich and Cambridge were also suspended until 9.30am.

'We are anticipating that services between Norwich and Ipswich will remain suspended for the rest of the day and evening, as a fallen tree caused extensive damage to overhead lines and gantries.

'Passengers travelling from Norwich to London are advised to travel via Cambridge.'

Four overhead wire structures were damaged and will need to be replaced along with the overhead wires, before the line can reopen. Network Rail engineers will carry out this work overnight and it is expected that services will resume tomorrow morning
