It may be spring but the region is still experiencing winter like conditions with temperatures dipping below freezing.
The thermometer dropped to -1.8C in Santon Downham last night with Woburn, Houghton Hall and Monks Wood also seeing temperatures plunge.
It comes after a fortnight of cooler temperatures but Dan Holley, of Norwich-based Weatherquest, said that these conditions are not unusual for May.
'Temperatures have dipped below freezing in May for the last five years but what is slightly unusual this year is it has happened later on and not at the beginning of the month,' he said.
Mr Holley added the cold snap has been due to a number of reasons including cloud cover and cool winds.
'These winds are not coming from the Lowlands but all the way from Scandinavia so they are a lot cooler and with sea temperatures only at 10C, the coastal areas of the region are never going to get much warmer than the sea,' he added.
But temperatures are set to rise towards the end of the week with possible highs of 19C into the weekend. And next week the region will see highs of 23C but the warmer weather is not set to last.
By the end of next week cooler conditions will return.
